PlayStation Plus: 5-Day Complimentary Extension Announced

Feb 26,25

Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, citing an "operational issue" in a social media statement. However, the company offered no specifics regarding the cause or preventative measures for future incidents.

As a gesture of apology, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied to their accounts.

The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over one-third of players unable to log in and others reporting server failures.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage underscores those concerns.

This isn't the first major PSN disruption. The April 2011 data breach resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication.
