Path of Exile 2 Expeditions: A Comprehensive Guide

Path of Exile 2 introduces Expeditions, a revamped endgame event from previous leagues. This guide covers Expedition mechanics, rewards, and the passive skill tree. Four endgame events exist in PoE 2's Atlas: Delirium, Breaches, Rituals, and Expeditions.

Expedition Mechanics: Unveiling the Secrets

Expeditions are indicated on the Atlas by a light blue spiral icon. An Expedition Precursor Tablet placed in a completed Lost Tower slot guarantees an Expedition encounter.

Upon entering an Expedition map, locate the central Detonator and four NPCs. The core gameplay revolves around strategically placing Explosives near Markers to trigger events:

  • Red Markers: Detonating explosives near these spawns Runic Monsters. Larger markers yield larger monster packs, enhanced by Unearthed Remnants.
  • Unearthed Remnants: These relics provide beneficial or detrimental modifiers (e.g., increased monster elemental damage for higher item rarity from chests).
  • Black Markers (Spiral Symbol): Explosives near these spawn Excavated Chests, containing Artifacts, Logbooks, currency, Waystones, and high-tier gear.

The Explosives UI shows the area of effect (AOE). Avoid overlapping AOE circles for optimal farming. After placing explosives, activate the Detonator. You can strategically leave the area after detonation to regroup before engaging enemies.

The Expedition Pinnacle Map: Confronting Olroth

Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests have a chance to drop Expedition Logbooks. Use these Logbooks with Dannig in your hideout to access the Expedition Pinnacle Map. This map offers a significantly larger-scale Expedition with more Explosives and a chance to encounter Olroth, the Pinnacle Boss.

Olroth's presence is indicated by a skull on the minimap. Defeating Olroth grants 2x Expedition Passive Skill Tree points, valuable currency, and a chance at unique items.

Expedition Passive Skill Tree: Enhancing Your Expedition Prowess

Located within the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, the Expedition Passive Skill Tree enhances rewards and difficulty. It features eight Notable nodes and eight difficulty-increasing nodes for Logbooks. Defeating Olroth is crucial for acquiring points to unlock these nodes.
