Pokémon TCG Pocket Update: Trading Feature Delayed Until Autumn

Apr 03,25

The launch of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was met with enthusiasm, but the trading feature quickly became a point of contention. Initially, the system was hindered by the need for hard-to-obtain Trade Tokens and restrictive trading rules. However, a recent update promises significant improvements to address these issues.

The most notable change is the complete removal of Trade Tokens. Now, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will require Shinedust, a new currency you'll earn by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in your Card Dex. If you currently hold Trade Tokens, don't worry—they can be converted to Shinedust. Since Shinedust is also used to acquire flair, further adjustments are planned to refine its use within the game.

An upcoming update will also introduce a feature allowing you to share cards you're interested in trading directly through the in-game interface. This should streamline the trading process and make it more accessible to all players.

Trading spacesAs previously noted, the initial implementation of trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket seemed somewhat half-hearted. The digital nature of the game necessitates more restrictions than physical trading to prevent abuse, but the new changes aim to strike a better balance.

However, these updates won't roll out until autumn at the earliest, leaving a lengthy wait from spring. While the team behind Pokémon TCG Pocket is clearly addressing the issues, the pace of these changes might be slower than many fans would like.
