Pokemon Studio Releases New Game That\'s Not Pokemon

Jan 25,25

Game Freak, renowned for its Pokémon series, has unveiled a new adventure RPG, Pand Land, exclusively in Japan for Android and iOS. This isn't Game Freak's first foray beyond Pokémon; titles like Little Town Hero and HarmoKnight have garnered significant followings. While recent Pokémon games have faced criticism due to shorter development cycles, Pand Land demonstrates Game Freak's commitment to diverse projects. Though ILCA handled the 2021 Gen 4 remakes, Game Freak released Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and the Gen 9 DLC since 2022, with another major Pokémon title in development.

Pand Land's release is a positive step for both Game Freak and gamers. Players assume the role of an expedition captain exploring Pandoland's vast ocean world in search of treasure. The game offers relaxed exploration, combat encounters, and dungeons playable solo or with friends in multiplayer mode.

Limited Release: Japan Only

Currently, Pand Land is only available in Japan. While no international release date is confirmed, future global availability remains a possibility. Game Freak clearly values this project; development director Yuji Saito stated in the official announcement (via publisher WonderPlanet), "We've been working hard to create a game that takes the scale of a console game and makes it easy and simple to play."

Pokémon fans can rest assured; Pand Land's development hasn't impacted the highly anticipated Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release next year. Details on Pokémon Legends: Z-A are scarce, but its predecessor's popularity generates significant excitement.
