The Pokemon GO Tour Pass: A Free and Deluxe Option Explained

Niantic's latest Pokemon GO feature, the Tour Pass, has players asking, "How much does it cost?" The exciting news is that a free version is available! But what exactly does it offer? Let's break it down.

What is the Pokemon GO Tour Pass?

Debuting with the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass introduces a points-based reward system. Complete various in-game tasks to earn Tour Points, unlocking rewards, boosting your rank, and enhancing event bonuses.

The standard Tour Pass is free and automatically granted to players starting February 24th at 10 AM local time. However, a paid "Tour Pass Deluxe" option is also available for $14.99 USD (or local equivalent), providing an instant Victini encounter, upgraded rewards, and faster progression.

Earning and Using Tour Points

Tour Points are earned through familiar in-game activities: catching Pokémon, raiding, and hatching eggs. Daily Pass Tasks provide additional points.

Accumulated Tour Points unlock rewards, increase your rank within the Tour Pass tiers, and unlock bonuses. Higher ranks yield more rewards, including Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, and more. Increased rank also boosts Catch XP:

• 1.5x Catch XP at Tier 2
• 2x Catch XP at Tier 3
• 3x Catch XP at Tier 4

While Niantic remains tight-lipped about all rewards, the free Tour Pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a special background. The Deluxe Pass's top reward is a Lucky Trinket.

The Lucky Trinket: A One-Time Friend Booster

Exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, the Lucky Trinket is a single-use item transforming a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend. This allows a Lucky Pokémon trade without needing Best Friend status. Note: Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova expire on March 9, 2025.
