Pokémon TCG Prismatic Cards Scarce as Company Addresses Shortage

Feb 23,25

The Pokémon Company addresses ongoing shortages of its highly anticipated Scarlet and Violet—Prismatic Evolutions trading card game expansion. In a recent statement, the company acknowledged widespread supply issues and thanked fans for their patience. This marks the first public acknowledgment of the problem, which has been widely discussed on social media.

Initially announced in November 2024 with pre-orders opening shortly thereafter, Prismatic Evolutions was slated for a January 17th, 2025 international release. However, significant shortages have impacted global availability, including the United States. The Pokémon Company confirmed that reprints are currently in production and will soon be distributed to licensed vendors. While a specific release date for these reprints wasn't provided, the company emphasized its commitment to addressing the high demand as quickly as possible. The statement refrained from directly addressing speculation regarding scalping as the cause of the shortages, simply attributing the issue to "high demand."

Beyond the reprints, the Pokémon Company also reassured fans that additional Prismatic Evolutions products are forthcoming. These include a Mini Tin and Surprise Box (February 7th), a Booster Bundle and Accessory Pouch Special Collection (March 7th and April 25th respectively), a Super-Premium Collection (May 16th), and a Premium Figure Collection (September 26th). Players of the Pokémon TCG Live mobile game can also obtain cards from the set starting January 16th via the Battle Pass. The company reiterated its commitment to resolving the supply issues and ensuring fans have access to the new expansion.
