"PSA: Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Game Redemptions"
During Sony's recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered stood out, but it has stirred some discontent among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that only those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone are eligible for the discounted upgrade to the PS5 remastered version. Unfortunately, players who redeemed the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who got it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the $10 upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full price of $49.99 to access the PS5 remaster.
This decision has sparked a wave of frustration among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online platforms to voice their disappointment. On the PlayStation Plus subreddit, numerous comments reflect a common sentiment: subscribers are willing to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are unwilling to purchase the full-priced remaster. For instance, user squarejellyfish_ pointed out that Sony could have generated significant revenue if PS Plus players were included in the upgrade offer, noting that many would pay $10 just to try the game for a short period. Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated they would pay for the upgrade but not for the full game, while dredizzle99 echoed the sentiment, suggesting that Sony is missing out on potential sales from the PS Plus community.
Another user, jackanyon95, criticized the decision, arguing that since the game was previously offered for free through PS Plus, allowing an upgrade would bring in additional revenue without the need for a remaster. Despite the backlash, some subscribers are not surprised by Sony's stance, understanding that the company likely made this decision based on financial projections. Nonetheless, Sony has been labeled "stingy" by some of its most dedicated fans, who were hoping for a more generous approach from PlayStation.
While Days Gone Remastered has been a focal point of discussion, it was not the only highlight of the State of Play event. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements, check out IGN’s State of Play February 2025 roundup.
