Exciting news for fans of the gritty Marvel universe: Jon Bernthal's iconic portrayal of the Punisher is set to return in a thrilling new venture. Following the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Bernthal will star in a Marvel special reminiscent of the style seen in Guardians of the Galaxy. Adding to the anticipation, Bernthal will also co-write the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the acclaimed director of We Own This City.

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story. It's so exciting."

This announcement comes as Marvel Television gears up for the return of the Defenders on Disney+. The street-level superhero team, comprising Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, previously captivated audiences on Netflix. Their episodes have since been integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) canon on Disney+.

Brad Winderbaum shared his excitement about expanding this universe, telling Entertainment Weekly, "It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."

Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, continues the gripping narrative that began on Netflix. It brings back beloved characters, including Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). This season, they face a new, chilling threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer known as the Muse.
