Patapon’s Spiritual Successor Ratatan Unveils New Gameplay Trailer
Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle
During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works released an electrifying gameplay trailer, providing a sneak peek at the game's mechanics. The trailer showcases a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab, immersing viewers in Ratatan's rhythm roguelike action. The game masterfully blends rhythm gameplay with side-scrolling action, promising an engaging experience.
One of the standout features is the support for online co-op gameplay, allowing up to 4 players to team up. Additionally, players can command up to 100 characters in epic melee battles, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay.
Ratatan is crafted by Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and features the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. The game's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release on various consoles.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to a recent post on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to commence its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Although the game will not be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is dedicated to refining the demo for the Steam Next festival in June. Sakajiri outlined what players can expect from the closed beta, starting with access to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added throughout the month-long test period. He also mentioned that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation for this rhythm roguelike is already building.
