"Recruit All Avowed Companions: Guide"

Mar 28,25

Across Eora, navigating the treacherous Living Lands becomes an adventure filled with camaraderie and strength, thanks to the four Companions you can recruit in Avowed. Each brings a unique personality and a suite of upgradable abilities to enhance your journey. Let's delve into the details of each Companion you'll encounter in Avowed.

Kai

Kai is the first full-fledged Companion you'll meet in Avowed. Although you can briefly team up with others during the tutorial, Kai officially joins your party early on when you reach the port at Dawnshore near Paradis. He'll approach you directly on the dock, and together, you'll set out to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. Kai remains with you until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.

In Avowed, Kai is an ex-mercenary with a tough exterior but a compassionate core. His combat style is that of a tank, capable of both absorbing and dishing out significant damage. Kai's fire abilities are also handy for clearing obstacles like cobwebs and roots, facilitating access to hidden paths and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire, Active: Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, causing high stun to a single enemy and taunting them for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense, Active: Kai regenerates his health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring, Active: Kai performs a mighty leap, crashing down onto enemies to stun and taunt those nearby.
  • Second Win, Passive: Upon reaching zero health, Kai revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.

Marius

Marius is the second Companion you'll encounter, also in Dawnshore. He shares a past with Kai and can be recruited at a bar. Depending on your choice, you can either persuade him to avoid a fight or join him in battling some hostile NPCs.

Marius embodies the spirit of a hunter and tracker, traits that shine through in his personality, narrative, and gameplay mechanics. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials in the Living Lands. In combat, Marius excels with a bow and arrow and daggers, and he can manipulate nature to ensnare enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities are:

  • Binding Roots, Active: Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
  • Heart Seeker, Active: Marius aims and fires a piercing shot that unerringly hits its target, passing through any obstacles.
  • Shadow Step, Active: Marius disappears into a cloud of smoke, reappearing near an enemy to strike with his daggers, repeating this up to three times.
  • Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius's attacks inflict bleed accumulation.

Giatta

Giatta, the third Companion you'll recruit, joins your party later in the main quest at the Fior settlement in the Emerald Stair Region. As an animancer, she practices a form of magic that's considered controversial in the Living Lands.

Giatta plays a crucial role in uncovering the spiritual mysteries of Avowed's main quest. In combat, she serves as a support character, focusing less on direct damage and more on healing, shielding, and buffing allies. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, which can unlock new exploration paths and reveal hidden loot.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification, Active: Giatta emits a wave of energy that heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier, Active: Giatta grants all allies a temporary health shield for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration, Active: Giatta enhances the move and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction, Passive: Giatta's attacks provide minor healing to all allies.

Yatzli

Yatzli faces off in a forest in Avowed

Yatzli is the fourth and final Companion you can recruit in Avowed, joining your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within Thirdborn city, though you may encounter her earlier in the world.

Like Giatta, Yatzli is a magic user, but her focus is on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, offering options for both single-target and area-of-effect attacks, making her excellent for crowd control. Additionally, Yatzli can clear obstacles in pathways, making her invaluable for exploring the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:

  • Essence Explosion, Active: Yatzli unleashes an arcane blast that explodes on impact, releasing Essence and causing significant explosive damage.
  • Minoletta’s Missile Battery, Active: Yatzli fires a barrage of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion, Active: Yatzli manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Blast, Passive: Yatzli's attacks create a small area-of-effect burst upon hitting an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in Avowed, each bringing their unique strengths and abilities to your journey through the Living Lands. Avowed is available now on PC and Xbox.
