Rune Slayer Fishing 101

Mar 22,25

If you're wondering if *Rune Slayer* truly deserves the MMORPG label, look no further than its fishing mechanic. Yes, *Rune Slayer* has fishing, solidifying its place in the MMORPG pantheon (we're only half-joking!). This guide will walk you through the surprisingly unintuitive process of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Trust us, we struggled too, but we've cracked the code (pun intended).

Before you can reel in any aquatic treasures, you'll need to accept a quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the pier where barracuda swim). He'll task you with catching 5 "fish" (we'll explain the quotes later) in exchange for a handy Tackle Box.

To complete this quest, you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both. Grab a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 is recommended). Here's the catch: you don't equip the bait. Simply having the Worms in your inventory is enough. Each successful catch (or even junk!) consumes one Worm. Crucially, you seem to need at least 5 Worms in your inventory to catch *anything*. We strongly suggest placing your Worms in your hotbar for easy tracking.

Select your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed; just have it in your hotbar). Hold down M1 to cast your line into the water (the pier near Simon works perfectly). Watch your bobber. When it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's not foolproof; you'll often catch nothing, or even junk. But don't worry, Simon counts junk as a catch!

Once you've caught 5 items (fish or otherwise), return to Simon to complete the quest and receive your Tackle Box. Store your remaining Worms in the Tackle Box to free up inventory space. And there you have it! Happy fishing! For more *Rune Slayer* tips and tricks, check out our Ultimate Beginner's Guide.
