"Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026"

May 14,25

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Scheduled for release in 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro, Saros stars Rahul Kohli as the protagonist, Arjun Devraj. This new game was showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play event.

In Saros, players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a mysterious, ever-changing planet plagued by an eclipse and inhabited by formidable entities. The game echoes the atmospheric intensity of Returnal, with phrases like "come back stronger" hinting at its roguelike mechanics and the signature bullet-hell style that Housemarque is known for.

PlayAccording to creative director Gregory Louden, Saros represents the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-first approach. Although it introduces a fresh single-player experience, it builds upon the third-person action elements established in Returnal.

While Saros retains some similarities to its predecessor, it introduces significant gameplay changes. As highlighted on the PlayStation Blog by Louden, a notable difference is the implementation of permanent resources and progression. In Saros, the world shifts upon the player's death, but players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and development.

Further details about Saros are anticipated later this year, with Housemarque set to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration.
