HBO has exciting news for fans of The Last of Us—Season 2 is set to premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 9pm ET/PT, and will be available to stream on Max. The new season will consist of seven episodes, and HBO has released new character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby to mark the occasion.

Set five years after the gripping events of the first season, The Last of Us Season 2 follows Joel and Ellie as they navigate life in a commune in Montana with Joel’s brother, Tommy. This season will delve into the narrative of The Last of Us Part 2, so fans of the game series will have a good idea of what to expect.

PlayJoining Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, and Bella Ramsey, who portrays Ellie, are some exciting new cast members. Kaitlyn Dever will take on the role of Abby, while Isabela Merced will play Dina, Young Mazino will be Jesse, Ariela Barer will portray Mel, and Tati Gabrielle will appear as Nora. Notably, Gabrielle is also set to star as the main protagonist in Naughty Dog's upcoming game, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*.

The first season of The Last of Us was a critical and commercial success for HBO. Created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog, the series garnered numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received nominations for five Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.

Given the success of the first season, HBO is eager to continue the journey with The Last of Us. Francesca Orsi from HBO has hinted that the series may run for a total of four seasons, suggesting that Season 2 will not cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2.
