Street Fighter Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Announced in JapanPlayers Must Accumulate Sleep Points Before Tourney
Insufficient sleep incurs penalties in a new Street Fighter tournament, the "Sleep Fighter." Announced this week, this official Capcom-backed event is organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote its sleep aid, Drewell.
The Sleep Fighter tournament is a team-based event with three-player teams competing in "best-of-three" matches to accumulate points. Top-scoring teams advance. Teams earn "Sleep Points" based on logged sleep hours.
The week before, each team member must sleep at least six hours nightly. Teams failing to reach 126 hours lose five points per deficient hour. The team with the most sleep time chooses match conditions.
SS Pharmaceuticals promotes the event to highlight the importance of sleep for peak performance. Their campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," promotes healthy sleep habits. Sleep Fighter is the first esports tournament to penalize insufficient sleep, according to the official website.
The competition will feature over a dozen professional players and streamers in a day of intense gaming and sleep wellness activities. Participants include two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief, top Street Fighter player Dogura, and others!
