If you're eagerly awaiting Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie, you're in good company. The director, known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine, is still actively involved in the project. Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind the film, recently shared his excitement with Screen Rant, hinting that the film might be on its way sooner than fans think.

Currently, details about the movie remain largely under wraps, with the only confirmed information being its setting. The film is set to take place after The Rise of Skywalker, exploring the Star Wars universe five to six years into the future. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has described it as a standalone story, distinct from the main saga. In a February interview with Deadline, Kennedy placed the movie's timeline "post-[the first] nine," indicating it will be the first to delve into the post-Rise of Skywalker era.

In the same conversation, Kennedy confirmed that Levy's film will follow the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, scheduled for 2026. This means fans can expect Levy's project to hit theaters no earlier than late 2026, or possibly even 2027. Adding to the anticipation, Ryan Gosling is reportedly set to star in the film.

Tropper's optimistic comments suggest that progress is being made, offering hope that the wait won't be too long. Since Disney's last Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, in 2019, several other projects have been canceled, including a film from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Additionally, a Star Wars movie slated for late 2026 was recently removed from Disney's release calendar.

Every Upcoming Star Wars Movie and TV Show

21 ImagesAt the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm unveiled plans for three new feature films: a New Republic film directed by Dave Filoni set in the Mando-verse, a Dawn of the Jedi movie helmed by James Mangold, and a New Jedi Order film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. This latter project will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey, continuing her journey post-The Rise of Skywalker.

The Obaid-Chinoy project has seen several changes, with screenwriter Steven Knight departing after taking over from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Despite these shifts, Rey remains a central figure in Disney's plans, with reports indicating her appearance in multiple upcoming Star Wars films.

Disney's Star Wars lineup doesn't stop there. X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is set to write a new trilogy that will not continue the Skywalker Saga, contrary to earlier rumors.

The next Star Wars content to grace your screens will be Season 2 of Andor, premiering on Disney+ on April 22 with a triple-episode launch.
