Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the New skate. Game Begins

Exciting news for console gamers! The highly anticipated skate. game, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been testing the game since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years.

The last mainline Skate title, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise for a considerable period, focusing on other genres. However, persistent fan support, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, ultimately led to the announcement of a dedicated development team and the creation of skate. Last fall, early access was slated for 2025, and this console playtest represents significant progress toward that goal.

Via the official skate. Twitter account, the developers announced the console playtest, accessible through the skate. Insider program (registration required). A short video featuring the development team teased the playtest, confirming more Black hairstyle options and playfully addressing the initial "Fall 2024" announcement.

EA has confirmed skate. will be a free-to-play, live-service game. Details remain limited, but we know the skateboarding simulator is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by San Vanelona, Port Carverton, and real-world locations. A map leak surfaced in 2023, though its accuracy in the current build is questionable. Fans can either participate in the playtest or patiently await the game's wider release.

Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Interim

While early access is targeted for 2025, delays are always a possibility. Until skate.'s full release, fans can explore other skateboarding games to satisfy their need for speed and tricks.
