A DMCA Notice Targeting Garry's Mod from an Unclear Source Related to Skibidi Toilet

Garry Newman, the creator of Garry's Mod, reportedly received a DMCA takedown notice, the origin of which remains shrouded in mystery, demanding the removal of user-created Skibidi Toilet content within the game. The notice claimed a lack of licensing for any Skibidi Toilet-related content within Garry's Mod.

Initial reports incorrectly attributed the notice to Invisible Narratives, the studio behind the Skibidi Toilet movie and TV franchises. However, a Discord profile seemingly belonging to the Skibidi Toilet creator has since denied sending the notice, as reported by Dexerto. This casts significant doubt on the legitimacy of the claim.

The irony is palpable: Skibidi Toilet itself originated from assets within Garry's Mod, a game built upon Valve's Half-Life 2 assets, which Valve itself has licensed to Garry Newman. The notice alleges copyright infringement regarding characters like Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, Titan TV Man, and Skibidi Toilet, which Invisible Narratives claims to own the copyright for. The YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom!, known for its Skibidi Toilet animations using Garry's Mod assets and Source Filmmaker, is implicated.

Garry Newman shared the DMCA claim on the s&box Discord server, expressing disbelief at the situation. DaFuq!?Boom! subsequently denied involvement in issuing the notice via the same server, adding another layer of confusion to the already murky situation.

The DMCA notice was reportedly filed on behalf of Invisible Narratives, LLC, citing copyright ownership secured in 2023 for the aforementioned characters. While the situation remains unresolved, the lack of clarity surrounding the sender's identity and the inherent irony of the situation have generated significant online discussion.

This incident isn't the first time DaFuq!?Boom! has faced copyright accusations. Last September, they issued multiple copyright strikes against GameToons, another YouTube channel creating similar content, before eventually reaching an undisclosed agreement. The ongoing controversy highlights the complex legal landscape surrounding user-generated content and the use of assets from pre-existing games. The true origin and justification of this DMCA remain unclear, leaving the gaming community and legal experts alike questioning the validity of the claim.
