Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has launched its free-to-play open beta on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck. Following a successful closed alpha, this open beta release includes a significant content update from Titan Forge Games, featuring new gods, game modes, and more.

Revealed a year ago and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts improved visuals and refined combat mechanics compared to its predecessor. A revamped item shop offers greater flexibility, allowing players to equip diverse items regardless of their chosen god's class. The core gameplay remains familiar: players choose from a diverse roster of gods from various mythologies to engage in 5v5 battles, vying for control of the map and ultimately, victory.

Starting January 14th, players can download Smite 2's open beta for free. This update introduces Aladdin, a brand-new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Utilizing his unique abilities, Aladdin can traverse walls and even resurrect himself using his companion's three wishes. His ultimate ability involves capturing enemies within his lamp, forcing them into a thrilling 1v1 duel.

Smite 2's Free-to-Play Open Beta: New Content Highlights

  • 5 new gods, including the all-new Aladdin.
  • The return of the beloved 3v3 Joust mode.
  • A fresh Arthurian-themed map.
  • Updates to the Conquest map.
  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode.
  • New optional enhancements ("Aspects") for select gods.
  • Available for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), and Steam Deck.

Joining Aladdin in the expanded god roster are Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon). In addition to new gods, the popular Joust mode makes a triumphant return, offering a faster-paced 3v3 experience on a smaller map. The Conquest and Assault game modes are also included in the open beta.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 represents a significant improvement over the original Smite. The team expressed gratitude for the player feedback received during the closed alpha, which helped shape the open beta experience. They've also promised ambitious new content for Smite 2 throughout 2025.

While Smite 2 is available across major platforms, it's currently unavailable on Nintendo Switch due to concerns about performance. However, Titan Forge Games remains open to the possibility of bringing Smite 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. For now, Smite fans can jump into the exciting open beta across other platforms.
