Sega took to Twitter (X) on April 9 to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Alongside this exciting news, they unveiled a new trailer showcasing thrilling gameplay footage.
Sonic Rumble marks the debut of a multiplayer party game within the Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to compete in various levels and game modes. Sega describes it as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and dangerous arenas!"
As a free-to-play title, there have been concerns about potential pay-to-win mechanics. However, in an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries. He stated, "We’re aiming for a casual system that lets you purchase exactly what you want for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that relies on chance."
Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations
Shortly after announcing the release date, Sega shared that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each milestone achieved during the pre-registration campaign unlocks special in-game rewards to help players kickstart their adventure:

- 400K Pre-Registered - Happy Sticker
- 600K Pre-Registered - Crystal Chao Buddy
- 900K Pre-Registered - Garnet Knuckles Skin
- ??? Pre-Registered - Movie Sonic Skin
While Sonic Rumble has yet to reach the final milestone, the specific goal remains undisclosed. Fans speculate it might be set at 1 million pre-registrations or higher, similar to other games with similar campaigns.
