Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and exciting update on social media. Accompanied by a series of captivating images, the developer has unequivocally confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel is indeed in the works.

Just a day ago, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG designed for mobile platforms. However, they seized the moment to reassure fans that the team is diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4.

"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" stated Square Enix in their first of two posts. This message was accompanied by a collage featuring various screenshots. These images offer glimpses of characters, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and even a formidable giant enemy, heightening fans' anticipation.

In their second post, Square Enix expressed gratitude for the fans' excitement and enthusiasm: "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first substantial news about Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a brief, enigmatic hint in January. Although the game was unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had been relatively silent on its progress until now.

Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has previously suggested that Kingdom Hearts 4 will begin to steer the long-running narrative towards its conclusion after an impressive 22 years and 18 games.

As for the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was discontinued because, as the company stated, "it was determined that it would be difficult to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
