Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes
Nintendo has officially announced the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the beloved shooter isn't entirely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and balance patches as needed.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival on September 16th. Nintendo released a commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests, highlighting the Deep Cut trio's performance. "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us," Nintendo shared, "it's been a blast!"Splatoon 3's two-year run concludes with this development news, sparking renewed rumors of a sequel. The possibility of Splatoon 4 is generating considerable buzz.
Intriguing in-game elements spotted during the Grand Festival have further fueled speculation. Some fans believe certain locations hint at a new city in a future Splatoon title.
Responding to images of a futuristic city, one fan commented, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain unconvinced, suggesting the locations are familiar elements from Splatoon 3.
While Nintendo remains officially silent on Splatoon 4, rumors have persisted for months. Reports suggest development has begun on a new Switch title. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, strengthens fan belief in an imminent Splatoon 4 release.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading to speculation that Splatoon 3's finale might foreshadow a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4. However, confirmation awaits an official announcement from Nintendo.
