Stardew Valley: How To Cultivate Honey

Jan 20,25

This guide explores honey production in Stardew Valley, a surprisingly lucrative and often overlooked aspect of the game. Honey, crafted using bee houses, offers diverse uses beyond simple sale, including crafting and gifting.

Updated January 9, 2025, by Demaris Oxman: This guide covers all aspects of honey production in Stardew Valley, updated for version 1.6. Whether you're aiming for a modest honey harvest or a full-scale operation, this guide has you covered.

Bee House Construction

Bee House

Honey production begins with the Bee House. Unlocked at Farming Level 3, it requires:

  • 40 Wood
  • 8 Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup

Bee Houses can also be obtained from the Fall Crops Bundle (Community Center) or the Mayor's Prize Counter.

Place Bee Houses outdoors (farm, forest, quarry) for honey production every 3-4 days (excluding winter). Ginger Island allows year-round production. Harvesting honey with an axe or pickaxe will drop it, retaining the honey type influenced by nearby flowers. Note: Bee Houses in the Greenhouse are unproductive.

Flower Varieties and Honey Types

Honey Types

Honey type and value depend on nearby flowers (within five tiles), including those in Garden Pots. Absence of flowers results in Wild Honey (100g base, 140g with Artisan). The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) boosts artisan goods by 40%.

Honey Type Base Sell Price Artisan Sell Price
Tulip Honey 160g 224g
Blue Jazz Honey 200g 280g
Sunflower Honey 260g 364g
Summer Spangle Honey 280g 392g
Poppy Honey 380g 532g
Fairy Rose Honey 680g 952g

Harvesting flowers before honey collection reverts the honey to Wild Honey.

Wild Seed flowers (Sweet Peas, Daffodils) produce only Wild Honey.

Honey Applications

High-value honeys are best sold directly. Wild Honey and lower-value types have other uses:

Mead: Place honey in a Keg to produce Mead. Artisan boosts apply. Casks further enhance quality and value.

  • Normal: 200g (280g)
  • Silver: 250g (350g)
  • Gold: 300g (420g)
  • Iridium: 400g (560g)

Honey type doesn't affect Mead value; use Wild Honey for maximum profit.

Crafting: Combine honey, Hardwood, and Fiber to craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8).

Bundles: Honey completes the Community Center's Artisan Bundle and appears in Fish Pond quests.

Gifting: Honey is a well-liked gift for most villagers (except Maru and Sebastian), making Wild Honey an excellent friendship booster. Mead is also a popular gift (avoid Penny, Sebastian, and children).
