"Stardew Valley: Prismatic Shard Locations and Uses"
The Prismatic Shard, a dazzling, rainbow-colored gemstone, is among the most coveted and versatile items in Stardew Valley. Known for its rarity, some players may go an entire in-game year without encountering one. Given its importance in completing quests and unlocking special items, the search for a Prismatic Shard can become quite the challenge.
Fear not—Stardew Valley offers multiple avenues for acquiring Prismatic Shards, though it may still require patience and effort. Understanding where to look can significantly aid players in their quest.
Updated January 12, 2025, by Demaris Oxman: The 1.6 update has introduced numerous changes to Stardew Valley, impacting even the elusive Prismatic Shard. New methods to obtain these gems have been added, and existing techniques have been fine-tuned as part of the update's rebalancing efforts. This article has been updated to reflect the latest game version accurately.
Prismatic Shard Locations

There are several potential locations where players might discover a Prismatic Shard, though the chances are often slim:
- After reaching the bottom of the Mines, all monsters have a 0.05% chance of dropping a Prismatic Shard.
- There is a 0.09% chance for a Prismatic Shard to appear in the chum bucket of a Fish Pond stocked with
Rainbow Trout. The pond must have at least 9 fish to enable this possibility.
- A 0.1% chance exists for Serpents and Mummies in Skull Cavern, or Wilderness Golems and Iridium Golems after reaching Combat Level 10, to drop a Prismatic Shard.
- There's a 0.4% chance to find one inside an
Omni Geode or a
Mystery Box.
- A 0.79% chance to find a Prismatic Shard inside a
Golden Mystery Box.
- A 3.5% chance to drop from an Iridium Node in Skull Cavern, the Volcano Dungeon, or the Quarry.
- Approximately a 3.8% chance of discovering one in a Treasure Chest in Skull Cavern.
- A 25% chance to drop from a Mystic Node (a dark blue stone with curlicue patterns) in Skull Cavern, the Quarry, or in the Mines at floors 100 and above.
- A 25% chance to drop from a meteorite that lands on the player's farm.
- A single Prismatic Shard is available in a chest upon first reaching the end of the Volcano Dungeon.
- If
Emily hosts a stall at the Desert Festival, she will sell one Prismatic Shard for 500
Calico Eggs.
The most reliable method for obtaining Prismatic Shards is through the Statue of True Perfection, which produces one Prismatic Shard daily. However, acquiring this statue is no small feat. It is awarded upon achieving 100% perfection, as shown by the Perfection Tracker in Mr. Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island. For a comprehensive guide on reaching perfection, check out this guide.
Prismatic Shard Uses

These gemstones offer a wide range of uses in Stardew Valley. They can be donated to the Museum, a requirement for the "Complete Collection" achievement, and sold for 2000g each. However, their utility extends far beyond these basic functions.
Crafting & Bundles
The Prismatic Shard is one of six options for the Missing Bundle, essential for unlocking the Movie Theater. This bundle becomes available in the abandoned JojaMart after completing the Community Center.
For multiplayer enthusiasts, the Prismatic Shard is a key ingredient in crafting the Wedding Ring, used to propose to another player. Alongside the gem, players need 5
Iridium Bars. The recipe can be purchased from the Traveling Cart for 500g.
Gifting
The Prismatic Shard is a Loved gift for all villagers except Haley, making it a valuable item for building relationships with favorite characters or any NPC. While each villager has other Loved gifts that might be easier to obtain, Prismatic Shards are especially useful for maximizing relationships with multiple NPCs.
Weapons
A single Prismatic Shard is needed to acquire the Galaxy Sword, one of the most powerful weapons in Stardew Valley. To obtain it, bring a Prismatic Shard to the center of the three obelisks in the Calico Desert, where it will transform into this legendary weapon.
Players can also use Prismatic Shards, along with Cinder Shards, to enchant tools and weapons at the Volcano Forge on Ginger Island, adding magical enhancements.
Trades
On Thursdays, the trader in the Calico Desert will exchange one Magic Rock Candy for three Prismatic Shards. This food item provides substantial boosts to Mining, Attack, and Defense, with minor enhancements to Luck and Speed.
For a darker transaction, players can take a Prismatic Shard to the Witch's Hut and interact with the Dark Shrine of Selfishness, which will transform their children into doves, permanently removing them from the game.
Quests
Currently, the only quest involving Prismatic Shards is Mr. Qi's Four Precious Stones, which players can receive in the Walnut Room. To complete it, they must deliver four Prismatic Shards to Mr. Qi before the deadline.
