Stellar Blade PC Release Set for 2025
Exciting news for fans of Stellar Blade: following its exclusive launch on PlayStation in April, the game is set to make its way to PC in 2025. Dive into the details below to learn more about this highly anticipated release.
Stellar Blade is Coming to PC in 2025
Stellar Blade’s PC Release Could Potentially Require PSN
Rumors about a PC version of Stellar Blade started swirling in June when SHIFT UP's CFO, Jaewoo Ahn, hinted at the possibility during the company's IPO press conference. Today, those rumors have been confirmed: SHIFT UP has officially announced that Stellar Blade will be launching on PC in 2025.
In response to investor inquiries about "platform expansion" during their latest financial earnings report, SHIFT UP revealed their plans for a PC release. They cited the growing popularity of PC gaming, especially on platforms like Steam, and the success of global hits like Black Myth: Wukong as factors contributing to their decision. While an exact release date has not been specified, SHIFT UP is committed to maintaining the game's popularity through various strategies.
These strategies include a collaboration DLC with Platinum Games’ NieR: Automata and the introduction of a much-requested Photo Mode, both set to launch on November 20. Additionally, SHIFT UP plans to engage in ongoing marketing activities to keep the momentum going until the PC release.
Stellar Blade's transition to PC aligns with a trend of high-profile PlayStation exclusives expanding to new platforms, following in the footsteps of titles like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, this move introduces a potential caveat.
As a title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and with SHIFT UP becoming a second-party developer for Sony in 2023, there's a likelihood that Stellar Blade on PC might require players to link their Steam accounts with their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. This requirement could limit access for players in over 170 countries without PSN availability.
Sony’s rationale for this requirement, as articulated by CFO Hiroki Totoki, is to ensure "safe" enjoyment of their live-service games. While this may be understandable for titles like Helldivers 2, it raises concerns when applied to single-player games such as the Horizon series.
It's unclear at this point whether Stellar Blade will indeed necessitate a PSN account for PC players. Given that SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, there's a chance this might not be the case. However, should a PSN account be required, it could impact the game's PC sales, potentially preventing them from surpassing console sales as SHIFT UP has projected in their recent financial report.
