New Strategy Game is Like XCOM With Vikings
Arctic Hazard unveils Norse, a new strategy game reminiscent of XCOM, but set against the backdrop of Viking-era Norway. The game promises a historically accurate and immersive world, achieved through a compelling narrative penned by award-winning author Giles Kristian.
The gaming landscape is saturated with medieval fantasy settings. Fans of medieval European nobility titles might consider Manor Lords or Medieval Dynasty, both incorporating survival elements. Imperator: Rome offers a different perspective, allowing players to command the Roman Empire and influence the lives of historical figures on grand battlefields. However, Vikings consistently feature prominently in gaming, and Norse adds a fresh take.
Norse is a turn-based strategy title, echoing the XCOM formula, but with a Viking twist. Players follow Gunnar, a young warrior driven by revenge for his father's murder at the hands of Steinarr Far-Spear. Gunnar's journey involves establishing a settlement, recruiting allies, and forging a formidable Viking army. Unlike the construction and exploration focus of Valheim, Norse prioritizes a narrative-driven experience.
Norse: A New Viking Strategy Game in the Style of XCOM
To guarantee historical authenticity and an engaging storyline, Arctic Hazard partnered with Giles Kristian, a prize-winning, Sunday Times best-selling author, to craft the game's script. Kristian, with over a million books sold and a prolific output of Viking-themed novels (six+), ensures a high standard of narrative quality. The trailer showcases the developer's commitment to realistic depictions of Norway, aiming for an unforgettable Viking experience.
Further gameplay details are available on Arctic Hazard's website. Players will oversee a village, managing resource production and upgrading Viking warrior equipment. Each unit boasts customization options and distinct classes, including the damage-dealing Berserker and the ranged Bogmathr archers.
Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Norse is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players can add Norse to their Steam wishlists, though a release date remains unannounced.
