Mad Max Films: Where to Stream Online Now

Nov 08,25

I'll be honest: George Miller is my favorite director. He's the creative force behind two of my most beloved film franchises: Mad Max and Happy Feet (yes, there was a Happy Feet sequel—definitely worth checking out). Sorry, I sometimes get carried away about Happy Feet.

In reality, the Mad Max films merge the raw chaos of early '80s action styles with a surreal, apocalyptic vision of Australia. After releasing three movies between 1979 and 1985, it appeared Mad Max would remain a trilogy—a relic of its era. Then, following his Happy Feet detour, Miller unexpectedly returned to the very franchise that launched his career.

With Tom Hardy taking on the lead role from Mel Gibson, Mad Max: Fury Road debuted in 2015 to widespread acclaim, ultimately earning six Academy Awards. While the latest installment, Furiosa, may not have reached the same box office heights, I still firmly believe Mad Max is one of the greatest action franchises ever made.

As Fury Road marks its 10th anniversary, I strongly recommend a Mad Max movie marathon. Here’s how you can watch all the Mad Max films online.

How to Watch the Mad Max Movies in Order

If you want to watch the Mad Max films chronologically, you could view the original trilogy in release order, then switch Furiosa and Fury Road, as follows:

That said, I think Furiosa is best experienced as the final film in your marathon. Like many great prequels, some of its most impactful moments rely on your familiarity with the characters from Fury Road.

George Miller previously stated that the future of the Mad Max franchise depended on Furiosa’s success. Unfortunately, the prequel didn’t become a major box office hit. On a brighter note, his comments suggest Miller still has more stories to tell in the Mad Max universe.

This possibility gained traction when Deadline reported that the director “has a script” for another Mad Max film. I assume this refers to The Wasteland, a rumored follow-up to Fury Road. Still, Miller has other projects in development, and another Mad Max movie would require studio backing for what would almost certainly be another high-budget production—which they should greenlight. But we may not see it anytime soon.
