Geralt of Rivia returns—or rather, his voice does. Netflix expands its Witcher universe with Sirens of the Deep, an animated film set during Season 1 of the live-action series. Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt in the acclaimed video games, once again lends his talents to the monster hunter.

IGN critic Jarrod Jones notes that while the pairing of Cockle's Geralt and Joey Batey's Jaskier holds appeal, its charm might be primarily for dedicated Witcher fans. Still, it might help bridge the gap until the release of The Witcher 4.

The Witcher universe originates from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. Sirens of the Deep adapts the short story "A Little Sacrifice" from the second book, nestled between episodes 5 and 6 of Netflix's Season 1. The official synopsis:

Hired to investigate attacks on a seaside village, mutant monster hunter Geralt uncovers an age-old conflict between humans and sea people, threatening inter-kingdom war. With allies at his side, he must solve the mystery before hostilities escalate.

What Else Is in The Witcher Universe?

Andrzej Sapkowski's book series launched the franchise, followed by CD Projekt Red's critically acclaimed video game adaptations, notably The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The games spawned numerous spin-offs, including the popular Gwent card game. The Witcher 4, featuring a new protagonist, was announced at the 2024 Game Awards.

Netflix's live-action series debuted in 2019, completing three seasons with Henry Cavill. Season 4, starring Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, premieres in April.
