DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.

The image, shared on Bluesky, shows Alcock seated in her director's chair. Gunn expressed his excitement, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, as previously reported.

The film is largely based on Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who enlists Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel, a 2022 Eisner Award nominee for "Best Limited Series," is highly recommended.

Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further cast members include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the new DC universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (whose connection to the Gunn-verse remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
