"Switch 2 Exclusive: The Duskbloods' Hub Keeper - A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"
FromSoftware has recently provided additional details about their newly announced exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also transformed the design of the keeper in the hub area into something unique and, dare we say, adorable.
During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer ended with a captivating shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the camera. This character, as it turns out, is the new hub companion for The Duskbloods. In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on the role of this character, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."
Miyazaki further explained the design choice, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership. We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)." This marks a departure from the traditional shrine keepers seen in FromSoftware's previous titles, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who have been pivotal in guiding players through their journeys.
Given that The Duskbloods is a PvPvE game, the nature of the guidance and advice provided by the winged rat remains intriguing. Miyazaki hinted at the inclusion of "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players can anticipate innovative elements when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
