Sydney Sweeney, the star of the recent film *Madame Web*, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic anime and toy franchise, *Mobile Suit Gundam*. The confirmation came in February when Bandai Namco and Legendary announced their collaboration to co-finance the project, which is currently unnamed but is set to be written and directed by Kim Mickle, known for her work on *Sweet Tooth*. While specific plot details and a release date remain under wraps, a teaser poster has been released, hinting at the film's upcoming global theatrical release.

Variety broke the news about Sweeney's involvement in the *Gundam* film, though specifics regarding her character and the plot are yet to be disclosed. Sweeney, who has made a name for herself with roles in HBO's *Euphoria*, *The White Lotus*, *Reality*, *Anyone but You*, and the superhero film *Madame Web*, was also recently linked to a horror movie project based on a Reddit thread, where she is set to both star and produce.

Legendary and Bandai Namco have expressed their intention to release more details as they are finalized. They highlighted the significance of *Mobile Suit Gundam*, which first aired in 1979, in establishing the 'real robot anime' genre. The series broke away from the traditional narratives of robot anime by offering realistic portrayals of war, detailed scientific analysis, and complex human dramas, treating robots as 'weapons' or 'mobile suits'. This approach sparked a significant boom in the genre and continues to influence the anime landscape.
