Pokémon TCG Market Shifts: Top Gainers and Losers for May 9 Week

Oct 31,25

The Pokémon single card market saw another whirlwind of changes this week as collectors await the Destined Rivals release. Thankfully, Black Bolt and White Flare Pokémon Center preorders dodged aggressive bot interference this time.

Greninja ex 214/167 took the hardest hit, plummeting nearly 50% from its value at the year's start. Price reductions also swept through Obsidian Flames and the coveted 151 expansions. On the flip side, Dragonite V from Evolving Skies surged, almost doubling in price since January, its stunning artwork long undervalued.

Charizard V Alt Art shines with its dynamic Pokémon battle against Venusaur, steadily rising in value. Meanwhile, Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art is skyrocketing, gaining $100 since the year began. Here’s a deep dive into this week’s biggest Pokémon TCG risers and fallers.

Pokémon Card Crashes

As Sword and Shield era Pokémon cards finally climb, Scarlet and Violet series cards are cooling off, settling into more realistic prices.

Alakazam ex SIR from 151, a visually striking card, dropped 34% since early March. There’s no excuse not to add this iconic psychic powerhouse to your collection this year.

Bulbasaur IR holds a nostalgic charm as my first starter from Pokémon Blue. Down 52% since mid-March, this gorgeous card is a must-have at its current price.

From Obsidian Flames, Ninetales IR remains a standout. With a 40% price drop since February, it’s now an affordable $18.17—time to grab this fiery favorite.

Obsidian Flames may have its critics, but Charizard ex SIR is undeniably striking with its stained-glass Tera form. It’s only down $5 since March, but every dollar saved counts.

Greninja ex SIR, once poised to be the priciest Scarlet and Violet card, crashed hardest this month. Prismatic Evolutions stole its thunder, but at $275, it’s still a solid card. Imagine paying $411.62 in late February—ouch.

Pokémon Card Climbers

This week’s risers include Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art, a Sword and Shield grail. Already over $500, it’s now $649.99 and shows no signs of slowing. It could hit $1,000 in a few years—grab one if you can.

Charizard V Alt Art delivers Kanto nostalgia with its epic Venusaur battle. Its dynamic angle feels alive, unlike many static WotC-era cards. Up $40 since January, it’s on track to break $200 by year-end.

Dragonite V Alt Art from Evolving Skies is a fan-favorite, balancing adorable and fierce. Its unique design, distinct from its pre-evolutions, has nearly doubled its value to $225 since mid-January. Secure yours before it climbs higher.
