This year's TennoCon delivered some seriously exciting news, most notably the upcoming Warframe: 1999 update. Get ready for a wild ride through a retro-futuristic 1999, battling a Y2K-fueled Techrot virus in the neon-drenched city of Höllvania.
A prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launches in August 2024, reuniting players with a beloved Warframe character and setting the stage for the main event. This prologue also introduces Sevatgoth Prime and their unique weapons. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 where the Y2K bug is a deadly virus. Explore Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot, using the new Atomicyles – agile vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Command a team of six unique characters, the Hex, each wielding a Protoframe – a Warframe design showcasing the human pilot.
The Hex team boasts an impressive voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through an authentic 1999-style instant messaging system – maybe even score a New Year's kiss!
Prepare for a musical showdown with On-lyne, a 90s boy band infected by Technocyte Coda. Their infectious tunes, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," are available on major streaming services.
Fashion is key! Warframe: 1999 significantly enhances the fashion system, allowing for two customizable frame loadouts and introducing Gemini Skins. These skins allow players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin system, complete with fully voiced dialogue.
Beyond the core update, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE animation studio on a 1999-themed anime short. Also, new Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (coming early 2025) are on their way!
