Tom, better known in the modding scene as Warhammer Workshop and the mastermind behind the Space Marine 2’s excellent Astartes Overhaul, recently announced the groundbreaking release of 12-player co-op. The gameplay footage showcasing multiple players engaging a Tyranid Trygon Prime in a battle that feels like an MMO boss fight is nothing short of spectacular.

This feat was previously thought impossible, as the vanilla version of Space Marine 2 only supports up to three-player co-op. However, with the support of the game's developer, Saber Interactive, the modding team not only shattered this barrier but is also set on transforming Space Marine 2 into an even more thrilling experience.

“Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community,” Tom shared with IGN. “None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do.”

It's important to note that the current mod is still in the testing phase, yet it performs remarkably well. The introduction of 12-player co-op significantly disrupts the game's PvE balance, which is understandable given the increased number of players facing off against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons.

With 12-player co-op now a reality, modders are actively developing additional content to leverage this new feature. Tom revealed to IGN that the team is crafting various modes, including prop hunt, PvP within operations, extensive updates for the upcoming official horde mode, and the highly anticipated raid-style missions. These missions will feature formidable bosses that demand teamwork and introduce entirely new mechanics to the game.

The Space Marine 2 modding community has flourished, boasting around 20,000 members in its main Discord server. “As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited,” Tom added. “Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles.”
