The Witcher 4: everything we know so far
The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the older generation's story concludes. The trailer depicts Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, revealing a far more complex situation than initially apparent.
While a release date remains unannounced, considering the development timelines of previous titles (The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), a three-to-four-year timeframe seems plausible. Given this projection, The Witcher 4 will likely be a current-generation console exclusive, targeting PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC simultaneously. A Switch port, while possible on a future iteration of the console, seems unlikely at this stage.
Gameplay details are scarce, but the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, signs, and combat. A new addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation of a mentor-like figure for Ciri.
