Yakuza Fans Vote on Unique Official Merch: Cult Clothes, Traffic Cones, and More
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is inviting fans to partake in the celebration by voting for their favorite upcoming official merchandise. With a diverse array of over 100 items to choose from, fans have the chance to see the top two vote-getters turned into real products within the next two years. While the voting page is in Japanese, international fans can still participate via the official website.
The merchandise options span from conventional items like a 20th anniversary hoodie and a Yakuza-themed pencil case to more eccentric choices drawn directly from the series' rich and often bizarre history. Standouts include the cult outfit of Munan Suzuki from Yakuza 0, the oversized traffic cone used by Majima in Yakuza Kiwami, and the quirky "Puffy Gold Pants." Other notable items up for vote are the sake Majima drinks in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Akiyama's gold watch, Kiryu's fountain pen from Yakuza 6, Kashiwagi's tambourine from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Kiryu's wrestling mask from Yakuza 3, and Saejima's prisoner uniform from Yakuza 4, among many other unique pieces.
In addition to this fan-driven merchandise initiative, the franchise is set to release Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii on February 21, 2025, ensuring a memorable entry into its anniversary year. Reflecting on the past, RGG Studio celebrated the 10th anniversary with the release of the critically acclaimed prequel, Yakuza 0. While no similar projects have been announced for later in 2025, the studio's history of prolific output suggests that surprises may still be in store.
RGG Studio's impressive track record includes releasing nine games in the last five years, encompassing titles like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, and two Super Monkey Ball games, along with an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5. This showcases their capability for rapid development and multiple releases, hinting at the potential for further celebrations throughout the year.
