Obsidian Entertainment's CEO, Feargus Urquhart, recently provided an update on the development progress of The Outer Worlds 2 and their upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed. Despite a challenging period, the studio remains confident in delivering high-quality titles.

Positive Outlook for Obsidian's Upcoming RPGs

Urquhart candidly discussed the hurdles faced by the studio, particularly the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the integration following Microsoft's acquisition. Simultaneously developing multiple projects, including Grounded and Pentiment, proved challenging, leading to a period of slowed development. There were even discussions about pausing The Outer Worlds 2 to focus resources on Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately decided to persevere with all projects.

The CEO recalled the complexities of navigating the acquisition, the pandemic, and the simultaneous development of Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Pentiment.

Despite these challenges, Urquhart emphasized the successful outcome of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed his enthusiasm for the progress on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential adjustments to the release timelines of other projects.

Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a delay, similar to Avowed. However, he reiterated Obsidian's commitment to delivering exceptional games, assuring fans that, while initial timelines may not be met, the studio will ultimately deliver on all its projects. Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
