Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O: Steam Debut This Winter
Virtua Fighter's First Steam Appearance
For the first time, SEGA brings the beloved Virtua Fighter franchise to Steam with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, promising a definitive PC experience. While a precise release date remains unannounced, SEGA confirms a winter launch.
SEGA proudly calls Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O the ultimate remaster of this classic 3D fighter. Key features include smooth online play thanks to rollback netcode, stunning 4K visuals with updated high-resolution textures, and a fluid 60fps framerate.
Returning classic modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus are joined by exciting additions: create custom online tournaments and leagues (up to 16 players), and spectate matches to learn new strategies.
The YouTube trailer has garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many fans, thrilled by the PC release, expressed their excitement to purchase another version of the game. However, anticipation for a Virtua Fighter 6 remains high among some players.
Initially Mistaken for Virtua Fighter 6
Following an earlier interview with VGC, many speculated that SEGA was developing Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, hinted at a new Virtua Fighter title among other legacy game projects. This fueled expectations for a completely new installment.
However, the November 22nd Steam announcement of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, boasting enhanced visuals, new modes, and rollback netcode, clarified the situation.
A Classic Fighting Game Returns
Initially launched on SEGA Lindbergh arcades in July 2006, then ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, Virtua Fighter 5, set within the Fifth World Fighting Tournament, featured 17 fighters. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O expands the roster to 19 playable characters.
Following its debut, Virtua Fighter 5 received several updates and remasters, reaching a wider audience:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
With modernized visuals and features, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O is a welcome return for fans of the series.
