Following the launch of Reburn—a studio established by former 4A Games Ukraine members, known for creating the renowned Metro series—4A Games has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing the franchise. This statement addresses speculation sparked by Reburn’s debut project, La Quimera, clarifying the future direction of Metro.

“We are the team dedicated to delivering the cherished Metro games,” the statement affirmed. “Our work on the next Metro chapter progresses alongside Dmitry Glukhovsky, driven by the same creative minds and expertise that have defined the series from the start.”

In addition to the Metro sequel, the studio teased developments on a new, undisclosed IP. They highlighted their pride in their Ukrainian roots and diverse team, with around 150 of their over 200 employees still based in Kyiv, alongside operations in Sliema, Malta, and remote setups.

Addressing the organizational divide, 4A Games noted:

“After completing Metro Exodus and its DLC, we partnered closely with 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Following Exodus, we established 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, integrating about 50 additional team members to maintain our momentum. Meanwhile, 4A Games Ukraine pursued their independent path with La Quimera, later rebranding as Reburn.”

Since Metro Exodus launched in early 2019, anticipation for the series has grown amid limited updates. While spin-offs and upgrades like the Enhanced Edition kept fans engaged, many are eager for the next installment in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s dystopian universe. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), the studio hinted at a new Metro title in 2019 with a tentative “202X” release window before going silent. Now, it appears the wait may soon be over.
