ANANTA, the eagerly awaited anime-style game, will avoid character gacha mechanics entirely. According to a September 23 report from Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, all characters in the game will be obtainable for free.

The report explained that ANANTA's monetization will center on customization options like clothing, vehicles, and other cosmetic items. It remains uncertain how the gacha system for these features will function.

More details will be revealed in Famitsu’s next weekly issue, which includes an exclusive interview with the game's developers discussing ANANTA in depth.

Meanwhile, fans on Reddit’s r/gachagaming community shared their opinions on the growing trend of previously speculated gacha games abandoning the system. With Duet Night Abyss (DNA) also eliminating its gacha elements, users humorously suggested that both DNA and ANANTA no longer belong in the subreddit, proposing a new thread for non-gacha anime games.

While many applaud developers for breaking away from the gacha model, some express concern about the viability of this approach. Nonetheless, other fans remain optimistic, pointing to publisher NetEase’s strong track record with free-to-play titles such as Marvel Rivals and Destiny: Rising.

Gameplay Trailer Released

Nine months after its initial reveal, ANANTA has dropped a new gameplay-focused trailer. On September 23, developer Naked Rain, a NetEase Games subsidiary, released fresh footage of this urban open-world action RPG.

The seven-minute video presented the expansive and distinct setting of Nova City, emphasizing dynamic combat and exploration. Players assume the role of a new captain in a special task force, tasked with building a team to elevate their department’s reputation.

They can also control various charismatic and eccentric team members, undertaking missions as a "department head, a polished elite, or a skilled hacker." The video description added, "In this world filled with quirky personalities, everyone has their own way of surviving. Your secret weapon? Social media. To reach your objectives, you’ll need to go viral and save the world!"

Fans in the YouTube comment section praised ANANTA's visuals and gameplay. One user noted that the game appears to blend elements from popular open-world titles like Grand Theft Auto, Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs, and Genshin Impact.

Others expressed relief that the game is still in development after nearly a year without updates. Overall, ANANTA has successfully regained attention with its rich mechanics and immersive features.

Playable Demo at Tokyo Game Show 2025

Last week, the developers confirmed that ANANTA will be playable at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2025, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. In a September 16 post on ANANTA’s Japanese X (formerly Twitter) account, they shared details about the TGS booth.

According to the announcement, attendees can try two game modes: Story and Exploration. In Story mode, players engage in high-speed car chases and intense combat, while Exploration mode lets them roam the commercial districts and hidden alleys of Nova City.

The ANANTA booth will operate from September 25 to 28. Demo participants will receive a limited-edition 3D commemorative card. Exclusive merchandise — including fans, bags, character acrylic keychains, and TGS-exclusive stickers — will also be available.

With all these announcements and events, excitement for ANANTA continues to build. Many anticipate a release date or beta test announcement soon, though Naked Rain and NetEase have not confirmed any plans yet.
