Every Assassin's Creed Game Tier List

May 06,25

Ubisoft's latest addition to the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, taking players on a thrilling journey through 16th-century Japan with protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. As the 14th mainline entry in the franchise, it's time to reflect on where it stands among its predecessors. Since 2007, when Desmond Miles first delved into the Animus as Altaïr, the series has expanded dramatically, but we'll focus solely on the mainline titles here, excluding mobile games, side-scrollers, VR experiences, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

To help gauge the standing of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I’ve crafted a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game. You can view my rankings below:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

For me, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the pinnacle of the series, earning its place in the S-tier. The blend of island exploration, exhilarating ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters creates an unparalleled Assassin’s Creed experience. It's joined in the S-tier by Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might raise some eyebrows, but I thoroughly enjoyed its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Alongside it is Unity, whose breathtaking recreation of French Revolution-era Paris still impresses a decade on.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to create your own tier list and see how your S, A, B, C, and D tiers stack up against the IGN community's opinions.
