Buffy Returns for Vampire Reboot

Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is nearing fruition at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is anticipated as a recurring character.

Adding to the excitement, Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are set to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not participating in this reboot.

PlayWhedon's absence follows previous allegations of creating a toxic work environment on the original Buffy and its spin-off, Angel.

Plot details remain scarce, aside from the central focus on a new Slayer and the possibility of Gellar's return.

The original series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student destined to fight demons, vampires, and other supernatural creatures. She was aided by her friends Willow, Xander, and the Watcher, Rupert Giles.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired for seven seasons (1997-2003), spawning the Angel spin-off and continuing its storyline through official comic books.
