The musical mastermind behind HBO's critically acclaimed The Last of Us series has confirmed plans for "at least two additional seasons," strongly hinting at a potential fourth installment.

"There will definitely be two more seasons, no doubt about it," composer Jake Staley revealed during an appearance on The Last of Us: Savage Starlight podcast. "At minimum. That's all I can share right now."

This revelation doesn't come as a total shock - showrunner Craig Mazin recently suggested a fourth season would be necessary to properly conclude the story, explaining that wrapping up The Last of Us narrative from the Naughty Dog games within Season 3 alone "would take forever." While Season 3 might be extended, Mazin emphasized that "it's impossible to finish this story in just three seasons."

HBO has celebrated The Last of Us Season 2's performance, with a surge of viewers expanding the show's global audience beyond 90 million since Season 1 concluded. However, network executives attributed lower Season 2 finale ratings to the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Creators Mazin and Neil Druckmann recently shared an intriguing detail: they're still determining "how much, or how little" certain fan-favorite characters will appear in future seasons.

The creative team visited IGN Live recently to delve into key moments from the game adaptation, offering insights into how they crafted pivotal scenes including Joel's death sequence, the intense horde attack, and the poignant planetarium scenes.
