Crunchyroll Opens CATO: Buttered Cat Mobile Pre-Orders
Crunchyroll has opened mobile pre-registrations for CATO: Buttered Cat. As you may recall, we covered the game's initial announcement last year. It first launched on Steam for PC in September 2024. A delightful mix of adorable cats and plenty of puzzles!
CATO: Buttered Cat is a puzzle platformer
The game is inspired by the buttered cat paradox meme—a thought experiment stating that cats always land on their feet while toast always lands buttered side down. Tying the two together is said to create a perpetual motion machine.
The name "Cato" blends the words cat and toast. The gameplay revolves around the unexpectedly logical teamwork between Cat and Buttered Toast.
To progress, you'll use various abilities to solve puzzles across diverse environments. Cat can run, slip through pipes, climb scratching boards, and even flow like a liquid to squeeze into tight spaces.
Toast, on the other hand, launches like a projectile—holding longer increases its travel distance. When Cat and Toast combine, the paradox activates, uncovering paths to previously inaccessible areas.
The full game includes more than 140 main levels, over 60 side levels, and 200+ handcrafted puzzles. You'll also discover hidden rooms and secret passages. Some secrets even hide Easter eggs from other worlds or drop collectible items for your hideout.
CATO also features five unique mini-games. The worlds are filled with variety, offering contraptions like buttered trampolines, speed-boosting space pipes, and mysterious companions.
Boss fights and enemies introduce light action elements to the primarily puzzle-focused gameplay. You can also unlock a wide array of cosmetic options with more than 50 different skins for Cat and Toast.
Pre-register Now!
Crunchyroll members can pre-register for the game via the Google Play Store. This is Team Woll's debut title, originally conceived during the 2022 BOOOM Gamejam. Check out the gameplay trailer to see the adventure in action.
