When to Rescue Sam

After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to leave the camp with him. Sam will inform you about von Aulitz, who is also at the camp. Your final steps involve retrieving Sam from the barn where you left him. If a guard questions your actions, simply tell him you're moving the body to avoid suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter until you reach the stables.
