Elden Ring Live-Action Film Adaptation Arriving Soon

Development is officially underway on a live-action Elden Ring film, as confirmed today by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and American film studio A24.

Overseen by celebrated writer and director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War, Warfare), the Elden Ring live-action adaptation aims to "capture the vast world and gripping action" of the original game on the big screen. The film will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin and Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis. Whether FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will participate in the development remains to be seen.

Additional specifics—including the storyline and casting—have yet to be announced. With more news likely just around the corner, fans are already eagerly awaiting further updates.

Elden Ring Continues Its Momentum in 2025

Although the Elden Ring live-action movie may not debut for some time, the video game series continues to thrive with multiple new releases. The original Elden Ring game first launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as one of the most celebrated titles ever, selling more than 13.4 million copies in just five weeks. By April 2025, global sales had reached 30 million units, as shared by the official Elden Ring X (Twitter) account—extending gratitude to all the Tarnished who ventured through the Lands Between. It is also recognized as one of the most decorated games in history, earning over 324 individual Game of the Year awards from various media and ceremonies. The 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, received similar acclaim to the base game.

FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down the franchise, heralding 2025 with not one, but two new releases for players. First, the Elden Ring spinoff Elden Ring Nightreign is a cooperative action game set in Limveld, a new realm where players become Nightfarers tasked with preventing the Nightlord’s rise. It includes familiar elements from the original Elden Ring, reimagined for a fully multiplayer co-op experience. Nightreign is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30.

Second, a complete edition of Elden Ring for the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2, titled the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, is due later this year. It will include the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four all-new armor sets, and a customization option for any of the three variations of Torrent the Spectral Steed. While it won't be a launch title for the eagerly awaited console, players can expect Elden Ring to arrive on the Switch 2 in the near future.
