Elden Ring Sequel: Iconic Message Feature Removed

Mar 13,25

FromSoftware has announced that the much-loved message feature, a staple in their games, will be absent from Elden Ring: Nightreign. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, stating that the game's approximately forty-minute sessions don't allow sufficient time for players to leave or read messages. "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes," Ishizaki said, "there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."

This choice is notable, given the significant role message-based interaction has played in enhancing player experience and interactivity across FromSoftware's previous titles. However, the team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign.

To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign will offer a separate adventure, distinct from the main narrative. This new experience promises unique challenges and encounters while preserving the signature atmosphere and intricate world design of the Elden Ring universe.
