The Flash actor Ezra Miller is planning a Hollywood comeback after facing allegations of abuse and harassment, along with other controversies, starting in 2020.

Miller drew attention at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, as reported by Variety. Their appearance at the premiere of Lynne Ramsay’s latest film, Die My Love, marked a significant public moment, suggesting a potential return to the spotlight.

Miller rose to fame with roles in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2012, establishing themselves as a key figure in Hollywood through their portrayal of the Flash in DC films and Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts series. Public concern grew after footage surfaced appearing to show the actor choking a fan, sparking a series of controversies that followed.

In 2022, Miller faced legal issues in Hawaii, including an arrest for disorderly conduct and harassment in March and another for second-degree assault shortly after. A felony burglary charge in Vermont followed in August. Miller issued an apology for their actions, citing “complex mental health challenges” and a commitment to returning to a “healthy, safe, and productive” state.

Miller’s most recent major role was in The Flash, which premiered in April 2023. Since then, they have kept a low profile, with appearances at Cannes and Filming Italy Sardegna in June. In an interview with Lo Speciale Giornale, Miller discussed “tentative” plans to re-enter the film industry.

“I’ve been writing extensively, finding solace in solitude,” Miller said.

Part of this plan includes a new project with Ramsay, where they will share writing credits.

“I attended Cannes to support my dear friend Lynne Ramsay, one of the greatest living filmmakers,” Miller shared. “We’re working on a film together, which will likely be my next step. Writing has been a refuge for me.”

Miller explained their Cannes appearance was at Ramsay’s request, emphasizing loyalty to friends and loved ones. They admitted reluctance to attend, describing it as a “challenging reentry point.”

“We’re often caught up in how we’re perceived,” Miller noted. “I believe in moving beyond that and being there for others. Those who supported me have my lifelong gratitude.”

They added: “I also learned who doesn’t truly care about my well-being. I deeply regret many actions and events from that period, but I’m grateful for the lessons learned from that dark time.”

Ramsay revealed to the Los Angeles Times that their upcoming project is a vampire film featuring Miller as the lead. It remains unclear if Miller will pursue additional acting roles or projects.

Muschietti praised Miller’s performance in the DC film, calling it “one of my best experiences working with an actor” and advocated against recasting the Flash for a potential sequel.
