FF7 Rebirth DLC Request Gathers Steam
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: No DLC Planned, But Modders Welcome (With a Caveat)
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth recently shed light on the PC version's features, addressing modding and the possibility of future DLC. Here's what we learned.
No Immediate Plans for DLC, But Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release of FF7 Rebirth, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in a December 13th Epic Games blog post that this idea has been shelved. Prioritizing completion of the trilogy's final installment takes precedence. However, Hamaguchi left the door slightly ajar, stating that significant player demand could influence future decisions regarding additional content.
A Message to the Modding Community: Creativity Encouraged, Inappropriateness Discouraged
Recognizing the inevitable interest from the modding community, Hamaguchi extended a welcome, but with a crucial request: While unofficial modifications are acknowledged and even encouraged, the team asks modders to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative contributions to enhance the game is recognized, mirroring the impact mods have had on other titles, but maintaining community standards is paramount.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts upgraded visuals, including improved lighting and texture resolutions, addressing criticisms of the original release's "uncanny valley" effect in character faces. Higher-end systems will benefit from enhanced 3D models and textures beyond the PS5's capabilities. However, porting the numerous mini-games presented unique challenges, particularly in adapting key configurations.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025, as the second chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Following its successful PS5 debut on February 9, 2024, PC gamers can now anticipate this critically acclaimed title.
