The announcement highlighted that the game will introduce a brand-new Purpose Path, long-awaited mod support, and much more, all while preserving the essence of the original Frostpunk. The developers elaborated further in a Steam post on the same day, outlining their vision for the project.

11 bit Studios is transitioning from their proprietary Liquid Engine, used for the first game, to the Unreal Engine. This shift was inspired by their experience with Frostpunk 2, which was developed using Unreal Engine 5.
