Herta is hardly a stranger to Honkai: Star Rail players, as many have eagerly awaited her eventual debut, particularly given the familiarity with Herta puppets that players have used in teams since the game's launch. What's interesting is that unlike characters such as Fugue or Imbibitor Lunae, Herta retains both her Path and Element from her 4-star variant. However, her playstyle is significantly different from that of the puppet version. Her kit focuses on accumulating as many Interpretation stacks as possible. These stacks are gained whenever any ally attacks enemies and are used to dramatically boost Herta's damage output.

Because of this, to fully unlock her potential, players should build teams with allies who possess consistent AoE attack abilities—especially through follow-up attacks, which are highly effective for rapidly generating stacks.

Notably, Herta's bonus ability, Message From Beyond the Veil, grants all allies an additional 80% Crit DMG as long as there is one other Erudition character in the party. This makes Herta particularly effective in dual DPS formations, where she is paired with another Erudition unit for maximum synergy. Below are some of the best partner options to complement Herta's unique combat style.

A lineup featuring Jade, Robin, and Lingsha alongside Herta stands as her strongest team upon release, with each member synergizing exceptionally well with her kit. Since Herta depends on allies who frequently deliver AoE attacks—especially while remaining SP-positive—Jade stands out as her ideal Erudition partner. Not only can Jade further enhance Herta’s stats, but her relatively quick follow-up triggers align seamlessly with Herta’s stacking mechanics. This works especially well when Herta becomes the target of Jade’s Debt Collector status, allowing Herta to activate Jade’s follow-up attacks more often.

For the remaining slots, a dedicated buffer and a sustain unit are essential. Lingsha is the top sustain pick thanks to her ability to maintain high HP levels for the team—particularly valuable since Herta's health will be periodically drained as the Debt Collector. Lingsha also uniquely contributes through her own AoE follow-up attacks, helping Herta accumulate stacks faster. Alternatively, Aventurine is another strong option due to his powerful shields, though his follow-up attack is a bouncing type rather than true AoE, making it slightly less consistent for stack generation. Other sustain picks like Huohuo or Fu Xuan can also be considered; while they lean more toward buffing than attacking, they still bring meaningful support.

For the buffer role, Robin is the premier choice, offering teamwide follow-up attack buffs alongside general damage increases and turn advancement. This proves especially useful in speed-sensitive endgame modes. If Robin is unavailable, her brother Sunday serves as a solid alternative, though his buffs lean more toward single targets. Ruan Mei is another excellent support option, boosting overall team performance while remaining skill-point efficient—allowing Herta to consistently use her Skill without strain.

Best F2P Team for Herta

Even as a free-to-play option, Herta shines in a distinctive and enjoyable lineup with Herta (4-star), Remembrance Trailblazer, and Gallagher. Among Erudition characters, the 4-star Herta is the most synergistic partner for the 5-star Herta after Jade, giving fans the chance to field both versions of the character in a single squad. While the 4-star Herta's follow-up attack depends on enemy health dropping below 50%—making her less frequent than Jade in some situations—the two still stack Interpretation remarkably well together. For those seeking an alternative, Serval is another strong 4-star pick, with solid AoE capabilities and mechanics that complement Herta's stack-building needs.

For the third slot, Remembrance Trailblazer is a fantastic choice, particularly in Ice-focused content. Even outside of such scenarios, this Trailblazer path performs admirably alongside Herta. Remembrance Trailblazer’s summon, Mem, deals True DMG once its charge bar fills and can further boost the team's Crit DMG via its passive talent. If Trailblazer is already in use elsewhere, Pela makes a great replacement, offering enemy debuffs, a highly SP-positive playstyle, and AoE attacks. Tingyun is another accessible F2P option, providing ATK and Energy buffs to Herta. However, since Tingyun doesn’t offer AoE damage, her contribution to Interpretation stacking is limited.

For the final slot, Gallagher is a flexible and reliable sustain pick. His SP-positive approach and AoE Ultimate bring steady value, though the role ultimately depends on which healers or sustain units the player has available.
